A door that closes.

Story:

When visiting a lady who only had a curtain as a front door, a question popped up in our minds: how does someone feel safe at night, protecting their family, when the only thing between them and the outside world is a piece of textile? While most of us has a front door to protect our valuables, many just want to be able to sleep well at night, feeling safe. This is why we want to fix doors.

Stories of some doors we have fixed.

After

A steel door that helps Um Ibrahim keep rodents and bugs out

TOTAL COST OF DOOR: $140

Um Ibrahim lives a particularly precarious life as a single mother in the Zarqa refugee camp. We met her on our very first trip to the camp and was astonished by her humble nature, not wanting to ask for help even when we inquired about whether she would need something. A year later and after our repeated visits, she reached out to us as asking for help as the situation of her front door had deteriorated significantly and could no longer keep rodents and bugs out. We were so happy to be able to help her!

Um Ahmed’s husband passed away three months ago (Q2 2018) and she was left alone to support three girls and a boy. The boy, who is the oldest is studying and working at a sweets factory (carrying and loading raw material) to try to make ends meet. Their door does not lock properly and does not have a proper door handle. We want to change that door!

Maha is a lady we know very well. She helps us finding families in need as she knows the Zarqa Refugee Camp inside out - she has been a resident since the 1980's. After 5 visits to the camp, Maha asked quietly if we could have a look at her mother's door as it does not close properly and bugs and rats frequently finds their way into their house. We want to help.

TOTAL COST OF DOOR: $212

STATUS UPDATE: This door has been installed and the project was completed in Oct 2018.

Fathieh is a lady from the Zarqa Refugee Camp with personal health problems, supporting three boys on her own. Her husband does not live with them and her welfare benefits are insufficient to help improve the house she lives in. One of the many things Fathieh needs help with in to install a new door as the current one does not lock properly and it has broken windows. We want to help.
