Cooking in an actual kitchen.

Story:

Cooking is something we all do, but so many of us take for granted that we actually have a kitchen to cook in.

It is often said that the kitchen is the heart of any house. That is where our food is prepared and a lot of the bonding in families take place. For so many of the families, the place where they cook is small, dark and unventilated, using equipment that is not fit for handling food we put into our bodies.

We want to install basic kitchens, ranging from a few cupboards, to gas cookers to fridges, for families in need. With your contribution and through our connections, to promote recycling of existing products and to keep costs at a minimum, we want to try and make use of second hand kitchens whenever possible, installing appropriate items that fit the families needs so they can prepare meals.

Below are a few examples of families we would like to help. Remember, no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted!

Stories of kitchens we want to fix.

TOTAL ESTIMATED COST OF RENOVATING UM MOHAMMED’S KITCHEN: $1,000

Um Majd is the first wife in a polygamous marriage and a mother of three daughters. Her husband works as a construction worker with very sporadic income. Um Majd lives in a very simple one room house with a small courtyard that connects to their kitchen and bathroom. Um Majd’s kitchen does not have any cupboards at all so storing her kitchen utensils is a challenge. We would love to be able to help her organise her kitchen by installing a simple set of cupboards.

TOTAL ESTIMATED COST OF RENOVATING UM MOHAMMED’S KITCHEN: $600

Um and Abu Mohammed is an elderly couple who lives together with their son and their family. While the house is clean and tidy, their kitchen has no cupboards at all for storing either food, nor utensils. With your support, we wish to install cupboards there as well as also hopefully replace their ceiling.
